Commissioned work for WinQ magazine. A number of Dutch authorities have conducted research into boy prostitution in recent decades, but mapping the exact scope of the problem proved difficult. In a fact sheet that the EMP drew up in 2018 together with various chain partners, they estimate that about 1,500 boys provide sexual services against payment every day. Van den Akker suspects that this is the tip of the iceberg. Victims of boy prostitution run into a threefold taboo on homosexuality, sex work and male victimization. In many cases they therefore do not seek or accept help.
